ABSTRACT

Microcomputer programs with industrial applications are listed in the Engineering and Industry Software Directory, which is published by the non-profit group Engineering Information. This chapter provides information on about a dozen software packages for use in various aspects of development. Public health professionals have organized the Computer and Communications Applications in Public Health Users Group (CCAPH), which distributes public domain software relating to public health and publishes a newsletter, Software Exchange, listing the software available from CCAPH. The US National Academy of Sciences has assembled an expert panel on the use of microcomputers for education in developing countries. This valuable collection of articles written by the panel members covers the topics of teacher training, software, primary and secondary education, special education, advanced education, and future developments. The chapter also presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book.
