ABSTRACT
Yegor Ligachev, the acknowledged leader of the conservatives, reacted promptly to Shevardnadze's speech. During a visit to Gorkiy, Ligachev reiterated the principle of "class struggle" in international relations and attacked other key concepts of restructuring, such as the market principle and economic cooperation with the West.
