ABSTRACT

American strategic style has really nurtured the conventionalization of US nuclear strategy in many ways. The American style of nuclear strategy provides to conventionalists plenty of ammunition for arguing their case about atomic warfare. In fact, the technical-managerial approach is closely related to the ideas of escalation control and dominance in nuclear war. Some of the misperceptions about the strategic motivations of the Soviet Union are also frequently based on the conventional assumption that the Kremlin believes in a war-fighting, war-winning, nuclear doctrine. The influence of the conventional mechanistic conception of nuclear warfare has reciprocally resulted in more attempts being made by the US government, to depoliticize the problems associated with the Soviet-American nuclear interaction. The American view of nuclear strategy and the conventional school of thinking about nuclear weapons are over and a technological approach to military problems.
