ABSTRACT

This chapter analyzes the organization of agricultural marketing in Musha. A full analysis of the labor process includes the role of the merchant and marketing since production is largely oriented to the market. Timing is important in setting the price and the ability or willingness of the farmer to wait for the best market price is an important element in determining that farmer's income for the year. People from Musha frequent several livestock markets. For sheep and goats there are the small Saturday market in nearby Shutb and a number of petty traders working this market. The animals are transported to the market by truck, and so the cost of transport must be added in as well. However, such an amount is small compared to the price of the animal. Most animals were bought once in their lives. The two principal fruits grown in Musha are pomegranates and grapes. Most eggs are produced in small quantities by individual households.
