ABSTRACT

The new merger in 1973 was brought about by the district council of Fured as part of a countrywide series of mergers to increase the economic potential of smaller collectives and, in particular to strengthen those that were not economically viable. By 1973 the Rakoczi had an excellent record of progress and a very stable, consolidated management, although it was still a very small enterprise. The present chairman of the jokai emphasizes that the new merger was sought by all parties and was not the result of pressure from the district council, but this claim cannot be accepted without some qualification as far as the Pecsely members are concerned. In the Jokai the level of members' education is significantly higher than it was in the earlier collectives; there are nine members with university education, twenty-five with higher technical school education and thirty-four skilled workers.
