ABSTRACT

In this symposium, we report on some of the research results of the South Turkana Ecosystem Project. The project is an integrated and collaborative effort in which scientists from ecological, anthropological and biomedical fields have joined to study a human population within its ecosystem context. A broad objective of the research is to explore relationships among the human population, their livestock species, other animal and plant species, and abiotic components, all of which constitute this arid savanna ecosystem.
