ABSTRACT

Nuclear arms control has been and continues to be the central theme of superpower relations for the last two decades. The main objective of aims control is to stabilize and control certain aspects of the arms race. This chapter covers materials dealing with processes of negotiating agreements to reduce dangers of nuclear war by means of security arrangements, partial disarmament, stabilization of forces, restricting weapons testing and more. The long and arduous road to limit the arms race has bought about a number of agreements such as the Limited Test Ban Treaty, the Antiballistic Missile Treaty (ABM), the Intermediate Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF), Strategic Arms Limitation Talks I Agreement (SALT I) and others.
