ABSTRACT

It is important to begin this chapter by reiterating that z-scores should be used in conjunction with other central tendency measures derived from univariate analysis. Such an approach allows us to combine all three comparative strategies: (1) case studies, by allowing us to isolate individual countries within a sample according to specific attributes of interest, (2) comparative cases, by allowing us to isolate groups of individual countries within a sample according to specific attributes of interest, and (3) statistical analysis, by allowing us to generalize about the nature of specific attributes of interest.
