ABSTRACT
The international companies have been joined by Norwegian companies, Statoil, Norsk Hydro, in which the government has a controlling interest, and Saga, a consortium of Norwegian banks and companies. In the many meetings held in Stavanger among the oil companies, more and more Norwegians are showing up, both as officials of the international oil companies and representatives of Norwegian companies. In each consortium, one company acts as the "operator." This company is responsible for the day-to-day exploration and production work. Since the heaviest responsibility rests on the operating companies, perhaps we should say a bit more about them. The Executive Board of the committee consists of representatives of the various operating companies. The closest cooperation is between the Norwegian and British governments, but even their collaboration is far from comprehensive.
