ABSTRACT

Genetic engineering will help to grow a super-tree that matures in just a few years instead of several decades, incorporating a whole bunch of desirable timber traits in its wood. Genetic engineering will enable to devise bugs that degrade environmental pollutants, and even help to extract more minerals from the ground. Broadly speaking, genetic engineering is an emergent technology that manipulates the molecular structure of cells in order to alter the genetic constitution of life forms. The technique can be applied with respect to many other genetic combinations. Microorganisms, principally bacteria, are regularly used in the manufacture of an array of medicinal products. Genetic engineering can assist in three main areas of industry, these being mineral leaching and recovery, enhanced oil recovery, and pollution control. Geneticists realize that they can accelerate the detection of desirable and heritable traits in individual trees, making possible the replication of such trees in large numbers.
