ABSTRACT

Women's studies is evolving just as colleges and universities almost everywhere are facing budget crises and as book prices are spiraling upward. Interlibrary loan services are one way libraries have tried to cope with this dilemma. Turn-around time for an interlibrary loan is unpredictable, so do not wait until the last minute to submit the request. Be sure to check with the librarian about restrictions on use, whether one may remove the book from the library building, if photocopying is allowed, how long a loan period the lending library has specified, and so on. If one request a journal article, they will probably receive a photocopy of the article rather than the entire volume on loan. Depending on cooperative agreements between library and others, there may or may not be a charge for the photocopy. Be sure to ask about charges.
