ABSTRACT

This chapter explains two different types of reference materials -- indexes to individual contributions to collected works of nonfiction, and comprehensive records of books that have been published. It presents sources of references to articles in women's studies, plus several interdisciplinary indexes that include women's topics. Book reviews and bibliographic essays on topics of current interest are occasionally featured, and the tables of contents of special thematic issues of journals are regularly reprinted. Women Studies Abstracts has covered the full range of women's studies topics for over a decade and should be consulted for virtually all research projects. Newspapers are bountiful primary sources for the study of women. They provide contemporary reporting on events affecting women's lives, are a chronicle of actions by women, and reflect the prevailing opinions of the day. The governments of the world have shown considerable interest in women, as evidenced by the wealth of information published through official channels.
