ABSTRACT

The Muslim League leaders themselves had backed and implemented the one unit scheme. In addition to the Muslim League and the Republican Party, the West Pakistan assembly contained another party which was under the leadership of G. M. Syed. Its official name was changed every now and then so it is usually called the "Syed group". In principle, Syed welcomed the offer of the Muslim League. He did ask whether the offer was being made with the consent and agreement of the national League leadership. Bahadur Khan made a written promise to Syed in his capacity as leader of the Muslim League assembly party that the League would support an unofficial resolution in the house for the repeal of one unit. The Muslim League leader, Sardar Bahadur Khan, protested the suspension and said that the contention that the province could not operate according to the constitution was totally wrong.
