ABSTRACT

Registration is a perpetual problem at all large colleges. This is especially true during the registration of new students, who need a wide range of information to be able to make program decisions intelligently. Once the new students are registered, concern with their program is by no means over. For one thing, initial registration for the new students takes place between two weeks and two months before school starts. Registration is such a crucial process for both the students and the college, it cannot be left to chance. Academic Advising was set up to try to deal with the problems, but it also had a new function in an ongoing bureaucracy and had to feel its way cautiously and slowly. Training of the student personnel is even more important for a successful registration. The preregistration advising and Conference Days gave students an opportunity for personal consultations to help them prepare for registration.
