ABSTRACT

Parliamentary elections were held in Czechoslovakia on Sunday, 27 October 1929. They produced a slight swing from centre-right to centre-left and changed the nature of the government back to ‘green-red’. After 1929, however, the Nazi star was in the ascendant in Germany and the Sudeten National Socialists found themselves being drawn into a major Nazi plot. In 1930 Joseph Goebbels and Baldur von Schirach, among others, addressed political rallies in Prague. World prices for farm products had been falling for some time and had taken a serious dip over the winter of 1928–1929. But the Wall Street Crash pushed them down very much faster. The army was right.
