ABSTRACT

Macao, a mortmain of China, has been administered by the Portuguese since 1887. It still relies on Portugal for some financial assistance. Macao is located about forty miles west of Hong Kong and comprises an area of sixteen square kilometers. It is best known for the tourism its casinos attract, for the production of fireworks, and for textile and knitted goods. Macao has no mining industry and is dependent on imported fuel and construction materials. Two new 23,000-kw thermal-powered generators add significantly to the electric power supply of Macao. Two additional reservoirs are being built, and several others are on the drawing boards to make Macao eventually self-sufficient in drinking water.
