ABSTRACT

Man made electrical pollution probably began with the invention of the high voltage, low current electrostatic generator and the low voltage, high current primary battery. However, their use was localised to research laboratories. The most prevalent sources of man made electric and magnetic fields are the generators, the transmission and distribution systems of electrical power, and the electrical devices which use electricity. Power to the coil may be supplied from a number of sources, the most modern of which is electronic. Thus, from an electrical pollution standpoint, the overhead system contributes the most. The people who are awaiting the arrival of trains at stations would probably be most affected by these fields. Electric power is usually supplied to the transit companies by local utility companies at a voltage level most convenient to the utility company.
