ABSTRACT

Information officers will have two different views of announcement bulletins, that is what they expect in the bulletins they receive from other report sources and use as tools in the acquisition process, and what they provide in the bulletins they prepare from their own acquisitions and issue to their customers. When planning an announcement bulletin, it is important first to consider the types of user for which it is intended. The information provided in an announcement bulletin will normally be the bibliographical details for the reports processed by the centre, that is cataloguing data, subject analysis and abstract. Lay-out has in the past been largely a matter of individual choice, but the increase in computer processing is leading towards standardization. By arrangement between National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics and the Smithsonian Science Information Exchange, a separate section of information on newly initiated and on-going aerospace-related research projects is inserted into each issue of Scientific and Technical and Aerospace Reports.
