ABSTRACT

The evaluation process, with its emphasis upon good planning, deliberate achievement of performance objectives, and systematic evaluation of results with appropriate follow-up action, is a tool of effective administration. The relationship of performance evaluation to administrative self-development is closer than may be assumed at first glance. One issue principals' face is how to help teachers improve their teaching performances. Among the tools at the principals’ disposal is the evaluation process. Through it, they are better able to exercise their own skills in personnel administration, utilize the resources of their staffs more effectively, and promote their own administrative self-development. Principals have essential personnel administrative duties and responsibilities to perform. In all aspects of administrative leadership is the underlying need of teachers to achieve personal and professional job satisfaction and fulfillment. The relationship of performance evaluation to administrative self-development is closer than may be assumed at first glance.
