ABSTRACT

This chapter provides the resources to consult and the procedures to follow when filing and indexing materials. Bibliotherapists-in-training are well-advised to take library-school courses in reference materials and book-selection techniques. Library schools and education departments also offer courses in children's or young adult's literature that provide a useful introduction to specific titles and resources in the field. Each library is a storehouse of books and, in many communities, of audiovisual materials, but it also provides many useful reference tools for locating materials; librarians, of course, are trained to be skilled users of these resources. For record-keeping purposes, note the date the material was used, the type of group, and the general nature of the reaction to the material. In addition to the primary material for a bibliotherapy session, the facilitator may use background music, pictures, photos, art materials, or realia to increase the impact of the text.
