ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book addresses the question of how interactive media is made and what makes an interactive product more or less complex. It outlines the process and the team involved with developing interactive media. While the types of projects under the umbrella of “interactive media” are broad, every project requires a process and a team. The book focuses on media content within an interactive experience: graphics, animation, audio, video and text. Developing for the Web involves an additional set of challenges such as acquiring a domain name, setting up hosting, a content management system and transferring files. Throughout history, innovations in hardware and networking have inspired new forms of interactive media and methods of delivery, including the Web, multimedia, kiosks, apps, social media, casual games and augmented and virtual reality.
