ABSTRACT

Usability is an interactive application’s ability to function in a manner that accomplishes what it was intended to do in an efficient, learnable, memorable, error-free and pleasurable manner. Good usability has a direct correlation to revenue. More usable games lead to longer play times and higher rates of transactions. A user-centric design approach can also improve usability. In content-rich applications, users can help with the organization and labeling of information through the use of a card sort. Good usability goes beyond the functionality of an application, it also matters if the application is enjoyable to use. The goal of building a usable product does not end after the design phase is complete. The process of user usability testing begins with finding representative users. Some companies that do a great deal of usability testing actually have usability labs which contain computers, cameras, audio recording devices and a one-way mirror to observe the users.
