ABSTRACT

This concluding chapter revisits the main ideas of the book. It provides a brief overview of the first three chapters of the book, each of which adopted a disciplinary lens to examine the dynamics of teacher evaluation. It then reviews the last three chapters, which examined the intended consequences of teacher evaluation—holding teachers accountable and improving their instruction—and its unintended consequences. This chapter concludes by offering important steps policymakers, researchers, and district and school leaders can take to enhance teacher evaluation and teaching quality in their schools.
