ABSTRACT

Pronouns are a limited set of small words which stand in place of nouns or noun phrases. In particular they stand for nouns or noun phrases which have already been mentioned or which are so well known to the speaker and the listener that they do not need to be repeated in full. This chapter gives information on the forms of the personal pronouns; reflexive and reciprocal pronouns; the use of the second person pronouns; the uses of the third person pronouns; the prepositional adverb; and special uses of the pronounes. It explains the forms and uses of the personal pronouns. The reflexive pronoun is a personal pronoun which refers back to the subject of the sentence or clause. Reciprocal pronouns are used to refer to two people, like English ‘each other’ or ‘one another’.
