ABSTRACT

“The time came in which, with my other girl companions,” writes Elvira, “I had to prepare myself for the great day of my life, my first Communion. Our young mistress, indeed, employed all the means with which her loving zeal inspired her, to prepare our young souls for the high mystery of love. She sacrificed the time of her rest, and gathering us around her spoke of our Lord and His immense goodness in giving Himself to us in so intimate a way for the first time; reading first a few pages from some devout book, and then with an eloquent simplicity peculiarly her own illustrated the words of the book, or related to us some admirable examples of holiness.
