ABSTRACT

Aaron had been preparing for the Olympic Trials for seven years. At the age of 21 he finally qualified, throwing his PR (Personal Record) in the men’s discus at the College Conference Finals. When Aaron was 14, his high school coach, a former discus thrower, had suggested he consider the event. Aaron was a natural. He dedicated himself in practice and expounded upon the advanced expertise of his coach. He fell in love with the complexity of the discus throw by studying the biomechanics of the movement. In one throw, there was power, grace, tension, looseness, balance, leverage, and force. His success in the sport quickly became his identity. He won the State Championship in his sophomore year and continued to improve throughout high school. He had his pick of colleges on scholarship and chose the school that had the best Field program. People had mentioned the Olympics for the past few years and now it was close to becoming a reality.
