East is East …?

IN many of the States of the East the white man until quite recently occupied a privileged position. His compatriots had built up this position at a time when the population of these countries was divided into a small, all-powerful ruling class and a vast mass of sweating coolies, who had bowed themselves for so long under a heavy yoke that they had acquired many characteristics of the slave mentality.
