ABSTRACT

This epilogue chapter, written in early 2019, turns to the most recent presidency of Donald Trump – a presidency positing a challenge to the research findings of this study. This epiloguediscusses whether or not Trump and his foreign policy team, up to now, have actually followed through on the announced abandonment of the policy, what obstacles stand in their way, and what we should expect in the future of U.S. democracy promotion. It argues that while internal developments are important, it is recent global developments that currently provide the most important pointers for the future of U.S. democracy promotion.
