ABSTRACT

In this final chapter we discuss and compare different models of team development over time and explain our rationale for choosing the IMOI model to describe team effectiveness. Teams develop over time and we go into some depth to describe how teams make use of the second I in the IMOI, TDIs and systematic monitoring of output and behaviour to increase effectiveness over time. We show how behavioural markers can be of practical use when team members, team leaders, supervisors or consultants explore the second I to gain insight into what needs to be developed to increase effectiveness. What was learned during a performance cycle can be used to form TDIs and to monitor teamwork in the next performance cycle. Based on the research presented in this book and on our own experience, we conclude by presenting our three take-home messages for how to enhance team effectiveness in practice.
