ABSTRACT

In this chapter we present a general methodology suitable for dealing with problems which arise when using teamwork. This methodology ensures that a problem is tackled efficiently and that the interventions chosen target the core problems and bring about functional change. Ill-managed problem-solving can be both de-motivating and unproductive. Based on empirical research, the chapter shows the steps from problem to solution; from a thorough description of the current situation from different perspectives that results in consensus about the core problem, an analysis of its causes, to forming the intervention and evaluating the results. We will use this methodology throughout the book and apply it to specific problems in each chapter. This chapter provides the reader with a tool to avoid the very way in which a problem is tackled becoming in itself a major obstacle to bringing about effective and meaningful change.
