ABSTRACT

In Chapter 2, we define the psychodynamic school of thought in personality psychology. We will compare and contrast the perspectives within this school; and we will offer a critique of the psychodynamic school in general. Given the wealth of theoretical contributions from this particular school, we devote more sustained coverage to this school than we devote to any other school. In turn, owing to the unique influence of Sigmund Freud’s version of psychoanalytic theory, we examine Freud’s theory in greater detail than we examine any other psychodynamic perspective. Finally, we provide a prelude to Chapter 3 (Behaviourist Perspectives on Personality).
