ABSTRACT

Painter of landscapes in watercolours. Born in Manchester, he was a wealthy seed merchant who studied at Acomb Street classes run by Manchester Academy. He exhibited at the RA, RSA, RBA, RI, RWS and RSW, in the provinces and at the Paris Salon. His work is represented in some public collections including Manchester City Art Gallery. Chairman of the North-Western Federation of Art Societies, he developed an accomplished watercolour technique. Typical works are spirited Lancashire and Cheshire subjects (In Styal Woods, 1947, Farm Fold, 1948) and views in France (his drawings of the Quai Duperre, La Rochelle, for example). CF
