ABSTRACT

Painter of landscapes, figures, still-life, portraits and flowers in oils, watercolours and pen and wash; portrait sculptor and mural painter. He studied at the Central, the RA Schools and the RCA 1927–30, and held a solo at the Whitechapel Gallery in 1932. He exhibited in London galleries including the Ben Uri and at the RA from 1963 to 1970. Represented in private collections, his work includes the mural for Toynbee Hall, 1932. From 1938 he taught at St Martin’s School of Art. His expressionistic work uses bold colour with rhythmic lines and simplified forms.
