ABSTRACT

This chapter examines what long-term care (LTC) is and the importance of LTC. It highlights major LTC issues facing policymakers worldwide, including expenditure rise, the increase in the number of people with dementia, barriers to access end-of-life care, and ways to allocate and balance responsibilities. It then explains various sources of funds for paying for LTC, which includes taxes, compulsory insurance, voluntary insurance, out-of-pocket payments, and donations. It also examines the challenges of providing and financing LTC in China. It presents the analytical perspective, methodology, and structure of the book in the final section.
