ABSTRACT
This chapter explores in more depths the idea that meaning is created in interaction, by speakers. It begins by proposing two models of linguistic interaction and suggests that one of them is inadequate. The chapter introduces the reader to concepts derived from pragmatics: speech acts, face, face threatening acts, Gricean maxims, implicature and inference.
