ABSTRACT

Each culture produces works of art and the Africanist culture has been no different. Of importance are the factors that have influenced Africanist culture and its response to these factors. Important to this chapter is its reliance on discussion of moving from the grievance of slavery and its aftermath to the grief of this aftermath as shown in the creative arts of black Americans such as Langston Hughes, Gwendolyn Brooks, Sonia Sanchez, Toni Morrison and others who contributed to the writing of African American literature.
