ABSTRACT

We are shaped by our physical environment from an early age. Parental influences, home environment, sibling rivalries, societal influences and more all support the psychological development of children. Since ego development is an important aspect of child psychology, the relationship between the ego and the unconscious material forming within human consciousness is important for determining personality. This human personality will have as a part of its core not only easily recognizable learned behaviors but also the associations and unconscious behaviors belonging to complexes shaped by early childhood trauma, family influences and society’s influences. In the American cultural collective this means that race as an influencing factor is a part of the personality development of American children. The racial complex then develops as an unconscious aspect of childhood personality development.
