ABSTRACT

“Cyber Risk at the Speed of Data” focuses on how cyber started as an IT issue. It outlines the history of cyber as it started in academia, discussing the first cybercriminals and how they damaged computer systems and their evolution into today’s nation-state of rogue cybercriminals. Understanding how cyber became a business issue is key to critical thinking and thought leadership in cyber. Organizations and roles are evolving along with the sophistication of attacks. As threats evolve, so should the cybersecurity program - the people, process, and tools. This chapter is the introduction to cyber risk management and makes the business case for quantifying cyber risk the way the cyber insurance companies pay claims - from the digital asset perspective. It also demonstrates how subjective data can also be useful to amplify objective metrics.
