ABSTRACT

Karl Weick defines Enactment as people taking action to make sense of how things work and to solve problems. It is also a way of approaching uncertainty. So enactment is a part of the learning process. Enactment is acting out ideas or visionit brings them into physical reality. Enacting a higher level of safety performance takes a new set of assumptions and beliefs to interpret the conditions, intentions and events around us. The eight beliefs of relationship centered leadership offer a start in that direction. Perseverance is viewing enactment as learning rather than a final solution. For this reason Weick recommends small experimental actions before taking big ones if circumstances allow. The plant was losing money so top management allocated limited resources to maintain it. The assumption that took over site management was that the plant was unimportant.
