ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the Professional/Practice, Administrative/Line Management, Support/Person, Educative/Professional Development (PASE) supervision framework whilst working on a key project at Social Futures to embed our organisation-wide supervision policy. A subtle but intended consequence of utilising the PASE supervision model within organisations is that it requires line managers to develop these and other professional leadership and coaching skills. The attunement process comes from the supervisor having the appropriate range of capabilities and competencies that come together in perfect symmetry whereby these align to ensure that supervision is an experience that the supervisee looks forward to and feels validated. Consistency is one key to providing a sense of predictability in supervision. Routine and ritual are another aspect of supervision that is most easily influenced by both parties and includes having a structure and clear practices in supervision sessions.
