ABSTRACT

The death and rebirth cycle inherent in embracing the sacred feminine is the central theme of this chapter. The inner movement from an unconscious psychic alliance to the Judeo-Christian myth (monotheism, patriarchy) to an ever-deepening expansion into the feminine mysteries (ecstatic states, prophetic dreaming, deep sexual awakening) is revealed through dreams, amplification, ritual, and archetypal activism. The archetypal images of the Black Madonna, the serpent, and the ally are connected to the concept of negative capacity. The Demeter-Persephone myth and the Eleusinian Mysteries are the antidote to the father-son mysteries: the mother-daughter mysteries.
