ABSTRACT

The outcomes of strategic human resource management (SHRM) on various dimensions of labor relations were found to be inconsistent from examining the existing literature. The ‘black-box’ of the SHRM-performance link remains an under-researched area especially in the China context. The role of changing work context under China’s new politics to determine the direction of individual and organizational dreams could be one interesting area to explore in future research on the field of SHRM in China. Despite the existence of unique economic, social, political and legal factors in China, the influence of the institutional factors on the organizational strategic decisions when choosing specific human resource management policies and practices has not been examined fully from reviewing the existing literature. The chapter also presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book.
