ABSTRACT

In agriculture, in which skill at work involves so much more than fulfilling adequately a specified working day, technical education becomes particularly important. There are many problems involved in the reorganization of agriculture and rural life: Education, Social life, Local Government, the Mechanization of Agriculture, and, finally, problems much discussed to-day, relating to Production, Fertility and Nutrition. The fertility of the soil being the basis of human life, it would appear to follow that the better its cultivation the healthier the race. The Day Continuation Schools should provide further general education, some rural economics and book-keeping, physical training and medical attention. For boys there should be some science and simple mechanical engineering; and domestic science for the girls should have special application to rural life. Technical agricultural education is singularly good; everyone can get advice from authorities on all problems of education.
