ABSTRACT
This chapter examines the way in which an authoritarian mode of government evolved from the end of the war and explores the nexus between the war ending and the collapse of the democratic institutions. The second half of the chapter delves into democratic restoration which took place after the national elections in 2015. The chapter makes the argument that, during the post-war period, Sri Lanka had a relatively authoritarian regime and a relatively democratic government.
