ABSTRACT

If one recognizes a problem via evidence, then only the pathways to address it could be explored. Historically, most societies felt that creation assigned distinct roles for men and women, the former receiving a superior one. Gender equality movement gained global recognition ever since it was made part of the international human rights law by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted in December 1948 by the UN General Assembly. Much had happened since, and a major milestone was the setting up of the separate agency, the UN WOMEN. The latest Global Gender Gap Report 2023, brought out by the World Economic Forum, provides estimates of the Global Gender Parity Index for 146 countries. The index is an average of four subindexes, comprising Economic Participation and Opportunity, Educational Attainment, Health and Survival, and Political Empowerment.
