ABSTRACT
The first chapter discusses Freud’s essay on the uncanny, focusing on his definitions of the uncanny as the return to and of the repressed and the uncanniness of these definitions, particularly in relation to the mother’s body. It also considers definitions of religion and the relationship between religion and the uncanny.
