ABSTRACT

The Introduction to corpus tools contains four parts, each introducing one corpus tool: Lextutor Concordancer, BUY-BNC, SkELL and MICUSP. The section starts with an overview of the features of Lextutor Concordancer and an explanation of its potential possibilities for academic writers. BYU-BNC is introduced next, covering two of its main functions – Chart and Collocates – which are used in the book. SkELL is introduced as an alternative for carrying out quick searches for collocates. The last subsection presents the main features of MICUSP and explains how to customise searches. Each section of the book contains tasks aimed at developing concordance-searching skills using these corpus tools.
