ABSTRACT

Section 2 places a stronger emphasis on the communicative side of academic writing. It contains tasks based on writing for particular purposes, which have a wide-ranging appeal use across a variety of genres and subject areas. The section includes, in particular, the following parts:

This section not only addresses lexico-grammatical devices and formulaic expressions used to perform particular rhetorical functions; it also has a strong emphasis on the communicative purpose of writing, which is highlighted through concordance search tasks which draw students’ attention to the communicative function of lexical and grammatical forms, such as:
