ABSTRACT

This book takes to heart the fundamental understanding that Black lives matter less in the minds of many within our contemporary society, and it interrogates how confronting and engaging structures of racism stands to infuse Shakespeare's work with a currency that is vital in the people present moment. For this reason, this book extends its attention to racism to consider Black and brown people. In no uncertain terms, it is the issue of racism that the author aim to take up in this book. The resulting racism that emerges within a society that fosters such inequalities is the topic that this book seeks to interrogate, and it uses Shakespeare as a vehicle to do so. Of most importance, perhaps, this book puts the spotlight on the undeniable importance of those people of color who have contributed, and who continue to contribute, meaningfully, invaluably, and unflaggingly to our contemporary society.
