ABSTRACT

This chapter considers how images and voices of children often hold the most power in drawing attention to the injustices that those seeking refuge, asylum, or even fundamental belonging often face. Indeed, fighting for a secure environment for children ought to be central when the people consider their ethical responsibilities to each other. That difference, the author think, is critical to behold and to treat with seriousness whenever the people consider how scholars and readers who are Black, Indigenous, and People of Color come at Shakespeare. The particular migrant children's detention center featured on the PBS News Hour segment that the author discussed is located in Clint, a town that is a mere 30-minute drive from El Paso. The media connected the terrorist act with the incendiary remarks of Trump and later to Texas Governor Greg Abbot, who before the shooting had called on Texans to “defend” the border.
